Finally got my nursing degree
Alright so I finally got my nursing degree, and now I’m staring down the job hunt part which somehow feels scarier than school did. Looked through a bunch of listings and a few private clinics around here are hiring, figured I’d shoot my resume out even though I’ve got zero real experience yet. Wasn’t expecting anything back if I’m honest, but one of them actually called me in for an interview. Now I’m kind of spiraling a little, no clue what they usually open with or how these things even go for someone fresh out of school. What should I actually prep for?

Congrats on finishing first off, that program messes with everyone’s head way more than it should by the end. Interviews for new grads tend to run pretty predictable though, they’re not expecting you to have war stories, they mostly want to see you can think on your feet and actually communicate under pressure. Expect stuff like how you’d handle a difficult patient, a time you caught a mistake or almost missed one, how you prioritize when three things go wrong at once. Panels usually care way more about how you talk through your reasoning than whether you get some textbook perfect answer.
The one thing that trips up almost every new grad is the opening question, because everyone panics and either rambles through their whole resume or freezes up completely.
